Design for Web
I created the feature image and art for this installment of West Side Story's satire series, The Radish. I implemented a farm theme and took care to add diversity in my the art.
This art was for a piece about random acts of kindness people experienced. I illustrated some of the stories, and, as usual, prioritized diversity in my art. I'm proud of the unique style I used; it made the article pop by breaking up the words.
This editorial piece critiqued the lack of diversity in our curriculum. I immediately thought of the term white-washing, and photographer Paras Bassuk took this photo of dripping white paint for the featured image. I then created some colorful art to emphasize the need for diverse representation.
I created all of the art for this collection of columns about how staffers were finding joy despite the pandemic. I used a bright color palette to convey the happy theme.
Since it was difficult to get photos for this article from the summer of 2020 because of COVID-19, I decided to illustrate the students who were profiled about their involvement in Black Lives Matter protests, resulting in this feature image and individual portraits. I also thought this would be beneficial to help protect the students from being targeted by extremists. This series of art was part of my portfolio for my NSPA Artist of the Year Honorable Mention award.
I designed the feature image and more stylized pull quotes for this article I wrote about students and having to take care of siblings during online school. I wanted to convey the multiple forms of stress they experience as well as have a cohesive design style.
Design for Social Media
I don't have any social media designs because our Instagram page has pre-stylized options for posting to synchronize our brand thanks to Social Media Coordinator Helelia Wa Kalala. Check out our Instagram here to see her amazing work.
Design for Broadcast
I created these two feature images for these broadcast projects I worked on. If I could go back and make any changes, I would have added some more art-based elements to the Indigenous in ICCSD video cover. The Detached video, which I created later, better shows what I would aim for. The art embellishments add a unique feature that draws the viewers in.
